Franklin MA Fitness Exercise, Karate, Health - Mu Han Martial Arts
We hear the words "No Limitation" at Mu Han...but it begs the question, what does that mean? I suspect that it means something different for each of us. One obvious answer may have to do with physical limitations. Some of us may be less strong than others, less flexible, less coordinated. All of these characteristics are needed in martial arts. So we may find TKD physically challenging. Our brains might be yelling at our limbs to execute those movements, but they don't always listen well, do they. But of course, the answer is to not give up, to be persistent, repeat the moves over and over. Improvements might be slow in coming, or the changes might be very subtle. So when I feel frustrated about my apparent lack of physical improvement, I try to tell myself to look deeper. After all, all this practice can't make me worse, can it?
Well, maybe practice can lead to temporary setbacks, in the form of significant soreness, or even injury. Something occurred to me in class the other day. The instructor was urging us along in a difficult (for me) physical exercise. I felt the strain in my muscles grow intense. I'm guessing that it was wise of me to listen to my body and stop for just a moment. But when I thought about it later, I realized I experienced a moment of fear too...I was afraid of the possibility of injury. I wonder if that is also one of my limitations that I need to overcome. I am not suggesting that I should not be careful, but I think the more I am self-aware, not just of my physical limitations but also my mental ones, that may move me closer to overcoming those limitations.
